How common is it for graduates to apply to the 4 year programme at limited universities or even the 5 year programme?

The idea is well established for medicine but not as much for dentistry.

Do many biomed graduates apply to the standard 5 year programme and is it less competitive than medicine?

Courses are full so very common. It is less competitive than medicine because less people apply but still very competitive.
