    Hi I'm struggling with an easy question from mei book

    Think of a barrel as a cylinder of H height with T half way up.

    i) find the expression of the square of the radius in terms of L and H

    im fine with that

    ii) hence find expression for the volume V

    iii) this is the part where i get lost

    If L is fixed and h i varied what value of h gives the greatest volume?


    Background story with pictures. L is the diagonal constant. on the websaite d is is diagonal constant

    What was the equation in V?
    Depending on the equation, there may be an easier method, but generally the first thing you should do when you need to find the maximum value of a function is to differentiate it.
    (If you plot a graph of V against h, then at the maximum V, the gradient will probably be 0, as V decreases again afterwards)
