Why does it take admissions tutors for Universities so long to make a decision? watch

I applied for History to Durham months ago, but I still haven't heard anything back apart from an email saying they received my application. I would really like to know soon, one way or the other, but I just cannot figure out why the application process takes so long in the first place. Surely, working 5 days a week for one subject at one University, admissions should be able to make a decision within at least a month?

Because you're not the only person whose application they've received. They're probably looking at thousands of other applications.

    A month really isn't long.
