Hiya! I’m currently studying Level 3 Health Sciences and I’m hoping to go to uni to do children’s nursing in September 2019. By then my son will be turning 3 years old. My family is very supportive with childcare but I’m just worried as to how manageable the nursing course is with having a young child.
Also, what financial support can you get with having young children!
Any advice is welcome thankyou xx

I’ve seen that some universities offer family accommodation and a nursery onsite. One would be Sheffield Hallam university. Xx

Hi I’m study adult nursing (I’m a mature student) I don’t have children myself but know others that do.
Ensuring you have childcare to be able to attend university lessons & placement (which includes nights & weekends) is important. Having childcare organised in advance and back-ups is essential especially on placement as we are expected to make up the hours we are absent.
Some of the students with children say they find it difficult to find the time to study and sometimes leave things to the evenings when their children are in bed, or organise extra childcare to be able to study.
I’m afraid I don’t know about financial support but hopefully another forum member can help you there.

I've got a place to start September, and got 3 children age 6 and under.
For finance there is a childcae grant you can apply for, it doesn't cover the full amount but it helps, and you could also get the parent learning allowance.

I think it's going to be a case of being super organised with the workload. I'm lucky I've got lots of family close by who will help out as much as they can!

Forgot to say you apply through student finance in the normal way, then they sent me the childcare grant forms through the post after. The learning allowance was on the online student finance forms
