    an inspector calls help
He’s not. Gerald is around the same age as Eric and Sheila, so can be considered, by age at least to be part of the younger generation. However, due to his aristocratic roots and belief system similar to that of Birling and his wife, he can be considered part of the older generation. In an exam question on Gerald, you should discuss this fact that Gerald can be put into both camps simultaneously. He also is a halfway house with regards to the Inspector’s message. He does not react with as much anger as Birling and his wife, but does not change as deeply as Sheila.
