    is btec engineering pointless benders?

    That depends somewhat on what you plan to do.

    If you wish to become the worlds premier underwater basket weaver then probably yes.

    However if you want to go into engineering in some capacity...it depends on the specific circumstances of your interest in the subject/sector. For going onto a degree then you will very often also need to be taking A-level Maths alongside it (or for Cambridge and likely Oxford/similar courses, Maths and Physics). In terms of pursuing a more vocational role and/or pursuing an apprenticeship, I believe it usually suffices, although it will be down to the employer ultimately.
