I am having a hard time deciding which university is best for me. Going to the applicant days didn't help and the modules are pretty much nearly the same in both universities.

If they're both similar in your situation then when it comes down to it (sounds like it), the closer will probably end up better for you. IF anyone has any better input... then also the more research the better

Do you have any area of CS you are particularly interested in? Lancaster, for example, has is quite strong for Cyber Security, for example.

I think I'm quite interested in Cyber Security and networking. In terms of hardware, I'm also quite into motherboards and PC architecture.

Lancaster has a GCHQ certified Masters and a strong research interest in that area, which will bleed in to undergrad courses at the uni (Uni's will always want students to come back and do postgrad or a PhD as it's more money for them!).

In fairness Kent are building up this area, but Lancaster have been doing strong research in this area for some time now and likely have a more mature Cyber Security research capability.

I don't know if that helps, but certainly ask about it if you are in contact with the university.

No not now or ever I'm afraid. I did do a masters at QUB in Cyber Security and they worked with Lancaster at the time, and I think a professor from Lancaster did the QAA for our course. I spoke to him extensively about their course (in Cyber Security), and a friend of mine worked with some of their grads at a CTF contest in Cambridge. I also read some of their papers around Cyber Security too. Based on all of that I would say they have a real strength in Cyber Security.

That's about as much insight as I can give I'm afraid.

It's ok, thank you for giving me some insight into Cyber Security at Lancaster, you have given me some things to think about which may be useful in the future.
