I have my English Language GCSE coming up and our teacher said that it was related to writing a story, but I'm not sure how I should begin revising as I don't know WHAT I should revise other than sentence structures. Anyone have any tips?

I have my English Language GCSE coming up and our teacher said that it was related to writing a story, but I'm not sure how I should begin revising as I don't know WHAT I should revise other than sentence structures. Anyone have any tips?
However, general story features that come in handy are:
- Structure (Beginning, rising action, climax....they're basics but they're very important for a story as there needs to be a sense of organisation. It also helps give you an idea on how characters should be feeling.)
- Change in focus - this is an easy technique. For example, what would it mean if one paragraph in a text focused on describing an array of beautiful flowers then the next paragraph shifted to describing a girl in a similar manner? What does this say about the narrator's feelings for the girl? What could the flowers symbolise?
- Flashbacks, flashforwards and foreshadowing - these really spice up stories with suspense, but take care not to make them too unclear otherwise the reader will get confused.
I'd say a way to revise would mainly be to read different sources. Start recognising these techniques in different works and how they make you, as a reader, feel.
You could also revise by simply writing a short story (three pages max) and then organising it into a more coherent structure. Think about what you want to achieve - do you want to create rising suspense? Are you going to build a nice, happy atmosphere then suddenly go to a dark and scary one? It's all up to you
I hope this helped!
