With the practical we've been given to prepare for, we have three unknown solutions that contain transition metal ions, and we need to carry out tests on these solutions and identify what ion they are.
There are two parts I don't understand in this practical.
1)After adding 10 drops of the unknown solution and then adding NaOH until in excess, you then put the test tube in boiling water for ten minutes and write an observation. What effect does is the boiling water supposed to have?
2) You put 10 drops of the unknown solution and then 10 drops of silver nitrate solution... but this is a test for halides, so I don't understand what I'm meant to look for from the observation... or what kind of observation I'm even meant to expect.
Mainly focusing on Iron (II), Iron (III), Copper (II), Aluminium (II) and Zinc (II).
