Edexcel AS Mathematics: Mechanics M1 6677 01 - 06 June 2018 [Exam Discussion]

Edexcel AS Maths Discussion Thread - 2018 Edition

Hey guys, I thought I'd make this niiiiiice and early so we can all share how we're preparing for our Maths exams this year?

Mechanics 1
Date: Wednesday 6th June 2018
Time: Morning
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Days to go?: 91

Probably the most important way to prepare for maths is to do plenty of past papers! You can find all Edexcel Maths past papers [url="http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/exams/past-papers.html?Qualification-Family=A-Level&Qualification-Subject=Mathematics%20(2008)&Status=Pearson-UK:Status%2FLive&Specification-Code=Pearson-UK[excludedFace]s-smilie[/excludedFace]pecification-Code%2F9371"]here.

Also, Physics & Maths Tutor has some good resources for revision - everything from revision notes to questions on specific topics. Materials for M1 can be found here.

Good luck with the preparations everyone, let the countdown commence!

What do you guys think will come up in the paper? Do you think it will be easy or hard?
I feel a difficult pulley system will come up as well as a force vectors question. I feel the paper will be tricky

no dont say that! i like m1 and i get it but sometimes im just so stupid ngl

but one thing i always screw up is vectors and gravity like when is it -g and when is it g?

Then hopefully the grade boundaries should be as little low since they’re crazy high
You class g as negative when an object is moving up.
You class g is positive when am object is moving down.
You use this if the object is moving under gravity (the question will state so)
Is everyone doing Mechanics 1 tomorrow resitting it?

Coz I am and it's the last time(I think) this spec is happening, therefore they're gonna end it solidddd.
Well, that's kinda what happened with C1 a few weeks ago anyway.
Nah, this is my first time taking it. My school did s1 last year instead.

First time doing it here as well, we did S1 last year
Guys quick question when it’s asks direction can I always give bearing with a diagram
Don’t wanna lose easy marks
it will ask for a bearing or an angle. but if they do, yeah put a diagram.
We need an unofficial mark scheme now
was the acceleration, in the vectors question, the acceleration from the resultant force?

thats what i did. i think i got something like 26 degrees or something as the angle then subtracted from 270 because it was a bearing. Is that right?
