my mate had a chinese 125, a dirtpro or something. it literally fell apart and it had less than 3k miles on it.
If they're built like most Chinese stuff that comes through a Chinese company they don't really bother with quality control, they just ship everything they make.
As such you end up with a high "lemon" rate and it's pure luck whether you get something that's shoddily built and likely to fall apart or an absolute bargain.

Pay less, pay twice.

They are not even road legal are? I know trading standards have siezed many of them as they break so many regulations.

There is no chain guard which is the most basic safety breach in the book :frown:.

Just found out the Megelli is designed by British, but made in Taiwan.

Some of them have EEC type approval, so they are legal for sale.

I wouldn't bother to be honest... even the legal ones are renowned for their terrible build quality and poor materials, not to mention the fact that half the time they come in a crate with some (albeit minor) assemblage required, often with extra hidden costs such as registration and various duties. Although they are still pretty cheap, you'll also have a terrible time trying to sell it on second hand- and I guess if you're looking for a 125 you won't be planning on keeping it for that long, so it's worth taking this into account as well.

Far better in my opinion would be to take your A1 and get anything up to 33bph instead of a 125, which gives you far more options. If however you really want to continue riding with plates get a cheap, older but ultimately more reliable 125 made by one of the more reputable companies- something like a late 90s Yamaha DT125, Suzuki DR125, Honda XR125 etc. will do you well.

Just buy honda, yamaha or suzuki. PLEASE!

I've seen pre reg yamaha ybrs for £1799, only just more than that last crap bike. You'll be able to get used, but in good condition for much less!!

My advice here:

DO NOT BUY CHINESE!!!

I bought a £1000 chinese bike and within one month the trouble began. It's been repaired about 9 times in the last 14 months and the chinese supplier NEVER honors the warranty on it so it's been a choice of either scrap it or spend more money on it. I've spent about another £1000 on repairs and been late for work and missed appointments more times than I can remember.

I finally scrapped it today when it broke down yet again and the bike shop asked me for another £150 to fix it. I told them to stick it and called them con-artists for selling me it in the first place.

Chinese bikes are RUBBISH and you'd honestly be better off just folding each £10 note up into a paper airplane and throwing it out the window.

NEVER BUY CHINESE.

Read this twice, DO NOT BUY CHINESE motorbike, price is low and looks are good, but that's there to fool you.

I can tell you that if you look better you can find that bike selling at dealerships for 900quid brand new. So dealer selling the bike at 900, thats including profit markup, this means Chinease supplier sells bikes to dealers for around 500-600quid in quantities. But Chinese supplier wants profit markup too, this means bike itself worth 300-400quid in parts...

If you ever buy Chinese vehicle, drop it of the cliff, report it stolen and claim insurance while its not too late, this way you will partly get your money back.
