I bought some today due to having social anxiety/public speaking.

Are they effective for public speaking?

Completely useless.

Unless you take the placebo effect into account.

I could give you sugar pills, tell you it's a powerful anxiolytic and you may feel less anxiety simply because you believe you should despite it being sugar.

St. John's wort has little evidence to back it up when used for anxiety but you think it will work so it might help you but it's your mind that causes the changes, not the drug.
