    I think you're referring to the pinhole effect where if you have blurred vision and you look through a small hole it becomes corrected.

    The reason why people get blurred vision is due a defect in the shape of their lens in the eye. This is known as a refractive error. When looking through a small hole the light only passes through that hole directly into the lens ignoring any refractive errors the person may have.

    It's commonly used in ophthalmology (eye doctors) and optometrists to determine whether someone's vision is bad because of a refractive error or due to something else i.e. nerves or cataracts
