Typically, schools nowadays want a grade 8 or 9 to do A-Level FM.

No school will ask for anything higher than a 7 for maths and an 8 for further

I got an A* at GCSE.
I still struggle with some a level maths concepts. I started pure maths which is core and further maths modules and had to drop the further modules because they were too involved for me to self teach

A 7 will suffice for A Level Maths

If you're hitting grade 8s and 9s, FM is an avenue open to you, but be prepared for the hard work.
