    Hi im abit confused.
    an exam question asked for the observations made when magnesium is heated with steam.
    the markscheme says it produces a white flame and white solid of magnesium oxide.
    however, both my revision guide and textbook, do not include this observation in magnesiums reaction with steam, only with its reaction with oxygen?

    *is the revision guide speccific to aqa?
    * in the specification it mentions you need to know the reaction of Mg-Ba with water. So it would be better to learn the reaction of Mg with steam.

    Mg(s) + H2O(g) -> MgO(s) + H2(g)
    magnesium reacts so slowly with water (liquid) so thats why they react magnesium with steam. Whereas as you go down group 2, the metal elements reacts more vigorously with water(liquid)

    http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/resource...05-SP-2015.PDF (page 35)

    Its sounds strange that its not mentioned in the textbook however.
