I'm getting really confused by ionic half equations showing oxidation/reduction. The method we were taught by the teacher was: 1. Balance for species 2. Balance for oxygen (by adding H20 to other side) 3. Balance for hydrogen (by adding H+ ions) 4. Balance for charge (by adding electrons).
I was under the impression that water is a molecule. So why are we using H+ IONS to balance it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Water is a molecule. You use H+ ions to balance hydrogen atoms
