So i am a student whose studied in the uk for the past 9 years whose eligible for student finance. The problem is I’m not a british citizen so I need to send my passport as evidence I have ‘indefinite remain in UK’. My passport expired last year, which I stupidly haven’t renewed yet, but on the website it states I need to send my original passport? Do I need to renew it or Can I just send my old passport which contains the evidence I have ‘indefinite remain in uk’.Name: 9D210188-882F-410E-9A95-8F32917BE2F1.jpg.jpeg

If its a UK passport then they require a valid one. Check, but I would expect it to be the same for a foreign one.

You would need to check with your embassy whether they would return your old passport for the visa. If so then I would see if they have an expedited service where you can get it done there and then, so it is not lost.

The alternative is to transfer to a Biometric Residence Permit and then that is a separate document. Explained here.

    Hi Rb16,

For ID, the passport would need to be in date. We will also require evidence that you have had a valid residential status in the UK for the 3 years before the first day of the first academic year, you can send your expired passport as evidence of this.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,

    John.
