What's everyone's opinion on the concept of Mother's day? Personally, I think it's absolutely stupid as everyday should be used to thank your mother, not just a day specifically for this, once a year. The day sets a level of guilt and ploy by shops and restaurants to gain money by apparently 'appreciating' your mother. It's incredibly materialistic and should if anything be used to teach children from a young age, to respect their parents.

Every day is mother's day, whilst it's a nice concept, I feel as though it's just commercialised. Mothers deserve more than 1 day a year, as do fathers.

I believe that it should be everyday and it's very materialistic and commercialised now.

Totally agree, the day has become a marketing strategy.

I know. Most retail tend to increase the prices however people do buy it.

Yes, it's very edgy to not want to support Mother's day isn't it.

I feel as though those who appreciate their mothers are of a few kinds of which, one who appreciate all year round and another who appreciate and go an extra way on the day stipulated.

Then there's some people, who dgaf at all and others who show a pretense of caring on mother's day.

Don't understand why everyone is posting it on social media. I don't even think they follow their parents on Instagram, or have their parents on snapchat

Do you all jettison birthdays, too?

    Consistency is key.

It's nice as long as it's paired with decent behaviour and respect the rest of the time and you don't take it too seriously.
It's not just a day for kids to respect their mums, but for society as a whole to and that can be really sweet. It's nothing you need to go out of your way for, but it's nice to get you mum a little something or just take the chance to remind her how much you appreciate her.

I don't see any problem with not caring for it or celebrating it (as long as your mum gets why and doesn't take it as you disowning her), but I don't see any real harm in it either and think it's just a bit of fun.

jsk800 has a point. Every day should be a mother appreciation day. It’s borderline insulting to suggest a mother should only be respected one day of the year. I gave my mum a hug. I give my mum a hug every day. Today means absolutely nothing other than it’s Sunday and I get to be lazy all day

Who in their right mind thinks that Mother's Day is the only time at which you show appreciation to your Mam?

Following this logic, you shouldn't celebrate any birthdays either because every day should be a good time to find a reason to be grateful that somebody you know was born.

I hope you don't celebrate any birthdays.

That’s not what I meant. I just meant that the retail aspect of it is trashy

No, the statements that you have already agreed with fall squarely into the points that I just made.
