I have been offered a place at both universities, I'm not sure which one is considered the best for languages.
If anyone has any idea or studies languages at either university, I would be beyond grateful in getting your opinion and insight!
    Thank you!

    Hi Petra,

I can't help you with comparisons but I can tell you that the translation agency I work for in the Algarve had a student from Edinburgh on a three-month placement just two years ago. She was doing joint German and Portuguese and had spent her year abroad in Germany. Despite this, her command of Portuguese was very decent and the agency still works with her on a freelance basis.

As for which is best, you need to think about which is best for YOU specifically, not what the statistics say. Look closely at the content of the courses at each uni, check campus facilities, year abroad options, and so on, and try and base your decision on that. If you haven't already done so and have the opportunity to visit them definitely do so. One or other of them may just "feel right".

    Good luck with your choice.

    Hi Petra,
My daughter started at Nottingham last September studying Spanish and Portuguese and to be honest is not very happy with it at all. Portuguese being the worst of the two subjects. She is doing three or four history modules and one each of the languages. She feels the tutors are not really interested with the exception of a couple of them. The strikes haven’t helped and it seems no one has a clue what they’re doing from what I hear it’s like the blind leading the blind. In addition to this at the start of the courses students including herself had no timetables for many of the courses for weeks!
She was desperate to be offered a place at Nottingham and was so excited to receive her offer, but as yet has been bitterly dissatisfied and disappointed and she is not the only one. The feeling is with friends, they just have to stick it out, hope next year is better as there are no other real options.
I really wish I could give it a great review but I honestly cannot.
