Hi, I bought a black prom dress over 5 months ago and when I got it, I immediately sent loads of photos to my friendship groups. Today, my friend said she also got a prom dress and said she wasn’t sure if it was the same since it looked familiar online.

Another friend that she told then told me it was the style dress but a different colour and flowers instead on sequins on the font. When I saw the photo, it was exactly the same dress, same tied back, same skirt and a very similar front- people can definitely see that it is the same dress in a different colour.

I really didn’t want to wear a similar dress to anybody so if I had a chance to return it, I would because I don’t want to cause any conflict but I can’t since I bought it 5 months ago and therefore can’t get a refund. I’m really annoyed because I sent photos to her of the dress and said even told her which shop I got it from, as well as saying I really hoped nobody else would get it. When other friends talk to her, she said that she’s still going to wear it if it fits, since it’s a ‘completely different dress’ although it’s literally the same.

I know it’s bad to lose a friendship over a prom dress, but I sent so many photos of the dress. If she thought it look familiar online, surely she should of messaged me to make sure she didn’t buy the same? This girl is a good friend but isn’t in my main friendship group so I haven’t spoken to her today since she told me about her dress. I’m not sure what to say to her about it since were both non-confrontation people and she’s quite an emotional person, I don’t want to make her upset.

It's not that big a deal-it's in a different colour.
Message her and ask could she look and see if there are potentially other dresses but at the end of the day not much you can do about it
