when do your highers become to old for you to use them to get into university especially when you haven't been in any form of schooling up until that date and will be required to take some reintroduction course.

They never stop being valid for entry as far as I know, but coming back as a mature student means your previous schooling matters less anyway. It helps to be able to show some evidence of recent study though. I got in with nothing fancy, some daft wee unrelated OU and free online courses, but enough to show i'd been brushing up on my study skills and was confident taking it on fulltime.

Depends on the degree you want to study, but I was told after around 4 years they aren’t considered recent enough to be valid for a science degree.
Mine were older than 4 years, but I had to take an access course to study even though I had good grades in my highers.
