2. Hi guys,
I am really worrying.

I did a 'practice' stats mock and did horrendously despite doing almost all of the questions in the book. One of the question comprised of venn diagrams inside venn diagrams, another question required an approximation on the binomial with an unknown value for N which then led to a quadratic in terms of root n needing to be solved.

I am so pissed off right now as neither of these sort of qs are anywhere in the book and I am not good at thinking on my feet. Is there really a chance that they will ask question which have nothing similar to them in the text book? I do not think the specimen papers are going to be accurate reflection they appear to be far easier than the 'practice' papers.
3. Thank you RedGiant I have done all the pure old spec and getting through the exercises but for stats and mechanics I have just been using the Exexcel endorsed text book. Going to just focus on m1/S12 like you suggest! Text book is so easy for stats it's so weird!

Also the practice papers are often composed of questions that were rejected to go into the specimen paper. So the practice papers are often known to be harder than normal (for other subjects at least).
5. Do we get method marks? Our teacher says we get zero method marks ?

I know different exam boards have different conventions on what they call Method marks and the different types of marks availible.

But yes, you definitely do get credit for working indiciative of a correct method / partial method in most questions.
7. Can anyone send me the stats and mechanics mocks at - [email protected]
or even any stats/mechanics resources in general, thanks in advance

Where do you get these practice papers? I'm self taught so I have no teacher so I'd really appreciate any resources for the next 2 exams

Thanks!

I probably meant the specimen papers, or the ones that pearson made from their textbook questions. I only have them in paper (with my writing on) which wouldn't be very useful. Would you happen to know of any good resources for stats/mechanics?

Anything that'll get me an A* lol xD What do you suppose the grade boundaries will be like?

I remember that specimen paper we had it as a mock, dw about it 1/20 people got that n question fully and average was about 60% where it was more like 75 in pure.
That paper is horrible

I'm hoping it's gonna be around 240/300 for an A*. How good are you at stats and mech?
15. Done so much less applied revision then pure, its so easy to practise pure in comparison.

I'd say my stats is better than my mechanics (I imagine it's the other way round for most :P) but my performance has been inconsistent in tests throughout the year, latest scores on the horrendous papers mentioned above were 64% in mechanics and 78% in stats which isn't really where I need to be considering I've been predicted A*s. I feel like I lost marks from silly mistakes more than anything though and the papers helped to point out the specifics of correct methodolgy for certain types of questions and the like

Yeah same for me, hopefully the gb will drop due to paper 3 lol
18. How's everyone for applied?
Just textbook year and 2; doing the online SAM and mock; doing the practice papers?

Anything more?

What mark do you usually get in stats and mechanics?

Not sure since I don't do assessments or exams but I just do the practice papers and textbook at home and pretty decent on them
