    Repeated measures and Independent Groups:
Less order effects independent group so reduced of rehearsal making it more valid
More individual differences so less likely to be valid
No individual differences in repeated measures as same person is used so more valid
More demand characteristics as participant can work out what study is about
Both equally valid and depends on what you want to study e.g. Loftus & Palmer could have used repeated measure

    Independent Measures Design
-Participants are split into groups with each group tested in only one condition of the study
    Strengths
-There are no order effects as participants only take part in one condition of the study
    Weaknesses
-More participants are needed than for a repeated measures design
-There may be individual differences between the groups
    Controls
-Participants can be randomly allocated to avoid bias and unreliable results

    Repeated Measures Design
-The same participants are used in all conditions of the study ( Note this is best used when the sample is small and participants can viably be used for all conditions)
    Strengths
-Fewer participants are needed making it more economical
-There are no individual differences between the conditions of the study
    Weaknesses
-Demand characteristics are more likely as participants may be able to guess the aim of the study
-Order effects mean that results may reflect on practice or fatigue
    Controls
    -Counterbalancing

    Matched Pairs Design
-Different participants are used in each condition of the study but are matched in likeness based on important characteristics
    Strengths
-Fair comparisons can be made between the groups as they are equally matched
    Weaknesses
    -Time consuming
-All characteristics may not be equally matched

    Hope This Helps x
