    As a joke, while he was there, i placed a bin on the top of his car. Placed it initially without damaging it. While he was taking it off he scraped the paint off his roof. Does this mean that I’m liable for damages, or not because I didn’t damage the vehicle

    Interesting question and im not sure. U would say in most cases yes as the damage was a direct result of you placing the bin there in the fist place. Not sure he owes you any responsibility as to how carefully he takes it off.

    Not because you didn't scrape it off. If he had done it carefully, there would be no damage
