Indie scene in Oxford

sorry if it seems like I'm shouting at you personally,I'm not.

I just hate it when people try and start arguments out of nothing just for the sake of it. I'm entitled to not want a ridiculously large or even larger than normal indie population at Oxford, even though I said I like Indie. I justified my opinions yet I have idiots negging me for the sake of it.
Greatleysteg
See my earlier post. I have nothing against indie - I like indie music, I like the idea of it. I'd go as far as saying indie is great. Heck, I used to be just like you guys. I just think it's littered with fake people.

Hence my hope that there isn't an obscenely large indie following at Oxford - the bigger the number of Indies, a certain proportion of which will be fake, the bigger the number of fakes.

Are you finished?

you need to be more positive. ignore the 'haterz' etc etc. besides, 'fake' people exist in all walks of life. if they weren't faking indie they'd be faking something else. thats how it goes.

oh, and i didn't 'neg' you. i don't use the reputation thing to be honest. too much thought and its wholly unnecessary. whoever did do is pretty lame, frankly.

there's a new gay indie night on sundays at thirst lodge, which might be quite good, although i haven't been..
Don't worry, we try our very best to suppress the indie scene and subculture as much as possible.

 ok, you didn't neg me, fair enough.

It's just that I felt like you were jumping on my back - it wasn't my intention to insult indie at all , in fact it's because I like it that I'm so against the fakers... old habits die hard, eh? I still get quite defensive.
I suppose inside I'm still indie, I'm just too self-conscious and aware of people possibly perceiving me as a crowd follower or a fake.

 I should be more positive.
Does anyone know if the How Does it Feel to be Loved? indie night still happens in Oxford? The HDIF website mentions the oxford night every now and then but there's no real info on it... I'm assuming probably not, but it'd be nice if it was. If not, are there any nights likely to play stuff that's a bit more twee? Bit of a long shot, I suppose.
^i don't think it does, but i may be wrong. not aware of it though.

as far as twee, i'm not really sure. i think that sometimes there might be a certain amount of twee at sunday roast at the cellar. could be an option.

GreatlySteg is actually spot on about the whole Indie subculture. It's about dweebs who want to follow the crowd and dress a certain way to be 'different', while copying everything else their mates are doing. Bleh.

Most student crowds are like this. I don't see why it would bother anyone more than the long-coat-scarf-windswept-long-hair-book-of-poetry crowd, or the look-at-me-i-play-rugby-and-pop-my-collar crowd.

Indeed, it's a criticism that works pretty well against almost every person, ever.

Listens to music [wears clothes similar to, etc] groups outside the mainstream?
Well, he's just trying to fit into the non-mainstream crowd, isn't he!

Listens to music [etc] of groups outside of even the groups outside the mainstream?

Genuinely pursues interests regardless of public opinion?
Well, he's just trying to be subversive and "out there", isn't he?

i also agree with greatlysteg.

what is the point of an indie club night? the DJs dont mix anything. they just put on records. even i could do that! heck, you could make up a play list of muse and arctic monkeys and if you're really 'out there', death cab for cutie or the long blondes

much better to go for some music they mix while you're atcually there, that you can actually dance to. i can tolerate live guitar-based bands in small doses.

some indie music can be danced to. many people enjoy said indie music. for those people, it is fun to dance to the indie music mentioned above. clubs are enjoyable settings in which to dance to music and be social with friends and those with whom a person may have a common interest. therefore, for those who like indie music, it can be fun to go to clubs which play indie music.

do you go to pubs? you could just put some beer in the fridge and slowly drink the evening away. alone. in the dark. much better to go to cocktail bars where people actually mix drinks.

you see what i did there? i pointed out that your logic is ****ing stupid.
