It is Gun's raison d'être to make everything about Oxford (or the Queen). It's best to just ignore him.
And why might that be? Does he study at the University of Oxford himself, presently? Or is he an alumnus of the University of Oxford?

Anyway, this is truly saddening news. He was an inspiration to both scientists and non-scientists alike, and will be deeply missed.

A medical and scientific marvel and a true legend. I hope one day he joins the people on a bank note or something alongside Churchill etc.

The amount of trash comments on this thread is disheartening. This isn’t a debate, it’s a respectful way to say your condolences to who was, undeniably, a pioneer for science.

Beat me to it you bugger!

    "There's a silence surrounding me
    I feel like I'm drowning
    I'm feeling weak now
But I can't show my weakness"

His mind character and spirit transcended his physical limitations. His ability to communicate is a metaphor for his greatest theories - Hawking Radiation in more ways than one.

Pi Day just gained a new member. A sad day.

By all accounts Hawking was a downright menace when driving around his wheelchair, steering erratically at times and going way too fast; at least when he still had enough motor functions to do so. It's a testament to his will that despite everything he went through, he still managed to retain his very British sense of humour. A real legend.

Very sad to hear this. He was someone I thought would always be alive. Silly thing to think, but there are some people you just don't imagine ever dying. Hope it was peaceful for him.

I've been meaning to read the untouched copy "A Brief History of time" but thought I'll read it later.

I think now's the best time to start reading.
