I have recently applied for student finance, however I was under time constraints at the time and ended up putting my mother down as being separated instead of single. They are now asking her to provide evidence of separation which doesn't exist as she has never been married. What's the best way to rectify this mistake and is there anything else I should know?

    Hi ZLP131086,

If you have put the wrong marital status on your application form, for example have indicated your mum is separated but she is single we are unable to amend this until we have received evidence confirming their correct marital status.

Once evidence has been received we will update our system to reflect this.

The easiest thing to send is a clear copy of your mum's most recent council tax award notification, showing the 25% discount for single occupancy.

    Thanks Rona

So does she just send this evidence with the submission form we are supposed to print at the end of the online process and the correct people will understand or is there anything we need to write to explain.

    Hi ZLP131086

Just enclose a clear copy of the document with a cover letter, explaining the mistake, including your name and customer reference number.

Once reviewed and accepted, you can be confident that you will be assessed on your mum's income alone.

    Thanks Rona
