# c1 question watch

1. The diagram shows a rectangular enclosure, with a wall forming one side. A rope, of length 20 metres, is used to form the remaining three sides. The width of the enclosure is x metres.

(i) Show that the enclosed area, A m2 , is given by : A = 20x − 2x^2.

The length of the other end of the rectangle must also be x. The length of the rope is given as 20m, so the length of the long side of the rectangle is what (in terms of 20 and x)? Then the area of the rectangle is what (in terms of its side lengths)?
