There's at least some reason to suggest it was at least racially motivated, if you bother to actually read the associated article:

People do often conflate racism and Islamophobia as the same thing so it wouldn't really be a reach.

And I have hatred of ideologies that won't let people speak the truth and acknowledge reality, good and bad, dues to silly, demented neurosis like political correctness and fear of causing offence, which they constantly put above innocent human life in the most immoral perverse way imaginable.

I despise when people who simply want to acknowledge factual reality as it is, the good, bad and uncomfortable, in order to address those things and try to improve things and make people safer, are labelled with completely false smears and shut down as bigots, islamophobes, anti-this and that, etc.

Anything that prevents us dealing with reality head on, I hate. Do I hate Muslims? Large parts of my closest and dearist family, my own flesh and blood, are Muslim, of course not.

But there are many teachings in that religion and many cultural practises that spring from those teachings that are abhorrent and have no place in the 21st century Britain. Yet, it's actually encouraged to spread and imported from jihadhi hotbeds and fundamentalist Islamic countries en masse. It's been ruinous and will continue to be so until this society grows a pair of balls, remember what the real values of this country are, and put pressure on Muslims, especially immigrants, to abide by the rules and cut out all the **** that is incompatible with our society and integrate. And puts and end to the disastrous EU idea that Europe can easily handle open immigration from outside of Europe.

The only guy that defended her and stopped her attackers was black. The egyptian news has not mentioned anything about the perps. I don't think they would call them african. That's not a term used by egyptians. Do you have a reference? By the way...despite this happening in public and countless eye witnesses seeing what happened no one has come forward and all the girls are still free as I understand..the only thing the articles mention so far as race is concerned is that the family says that she was called a disparaging name about black people....so that implies that her attackers were most likely "white" but this could be wrong.

This story has exposed the hypocrisy of media in this part of the world. The media here went crazy a few months ago because a british woman smuggling drugs was sent to prison in Egypt calling egypt unfair so on and so forth....This girl and her sister were attacked by the same girls months ago and the police did nothing.....yet no mention of wrongs...no crying from the media as we are normally used to them doing when the victim is "white" ....That same media has over the past year non-stop been rapes racialising against women..."asian rape gangs" "muslim rape gangs" .....yet here they are treading as softly as they possibly can avoiding mentioning the race of the perps and trivialising the attack the best they can....and giving it as little attention as possible....Hypocrites....

They've released a video of her on the bus after the attack with a black guy shielding people from her. People in the background sound like they are being aggressive towards her and they sound like "black" girls. She looks such an angel. I don't know how people can abuse others in such a way. Her name was Mariam Moustafa

I dont think this was because of 'Punish a Muslim day' , this sounds to me a very unusual case, probably mistaken identity. The Police also say they don't beleive it to be a hate crime.
