classical archaeology and ancient history...

I am predicted AAB at a-level, and am thinking of applying for CA+AH at Somerville- because i am not predicted 3 A's, do you think they will not even consider me even if i have lots of related stuff on my personal statement?

I just don't want to let myself in for a fall- yet i know that oxford is the best place to study this subject..

does anyone know anyone who is reading this degree at oxford- or has any more information on it?

thanks in advance..

Wow! I almost don't believe it. Another person's applying for CAAH! I'm not sure about exact grades as there isn't anything in the prospectus but I wouldn't think that AAB would be a problem because I went to an open day and they seemed more interested in what other things I had done than what my marks were going to be at A-level. Have you been on excavations etc? The thing which worries me is that not only do you have to be better than the other applicants but (at least at Maudlin) you have to convince them to sacrifice a place for a classics student to fit you in.

Good luck with your application!

Im applying to somerville (they were one of the key colleges in creating this degree course.... if what i have read is true..) and i have had my predicted grades up to 3 A's now so i am feeling far more confident. I am going on digs soon, doing an archaeology course and producing my own field studies etc... so i think i at least have things to talk about at interview.

It is completely strange how some people have not even heard of this course at all- it sounds great though, especially with all the facilities. However i have not my any means pinned my hopes on Oxford.
