I'm replying to several posts from Page 5-8, but, as I'm leaning towards Leicester as my firm (despite loving Lancaster and secretly liking the idea of Warwick and Oxford...) - full year abroad, subsidised language courses, GREAT History department, £1000 scholarship .
Are piano lessons up and running now, in at least John Fosters? 'Cause, I'll totally be spending part of my scholarship on that. And a new laptop for my Mum, lmao.
Yes, piano lessons are up and running according to welfare.
I might take it up myself actually, I regret dropping the saxophone and I'd like to take up something else.
I wasn't expecting much from Leicester when I went to visit, but it is actually awesome! I thought more of it than UCL, KCL or Exeter, and that's saying something.

It's just (maybe fortunately?) a bit of a gem fallen down the side of the sofa. People don't bother to look, so they go with the ones already set in lockets. So to speak.
...Wow, that was a really awful analogy. Thank God I don't ever want to do English there
So, Leicester's nice? Unfortunately, I can't go to the Open Day but hopefully I'll be able to go to the Visit Day before making up my mind.

It's great!
To give you a basic run down on the setting, the campus itself is about a 20 minute walk from the city centre of Leicester, and you can walk from one side to the other in about 7 minutes maximum, so it feels really closely packed and communal. The campus is situated next to a really beautiful and expansive public park, and there's a nice, leafy pedestrian walkway directly from the university to the city centre. The student village, which is a bus away from the campus, which is where the majority of new students live, is located on Leicester's millionaire's row [I'm not kidding, it is really nice] in a mix of new en-suite pavilions and old mansions. Even the most remote accommodation at the village is like 5 minutes from the University's botanical gardens.

How does the scholarship thing work? I think I've got the grades (AAB) to get it but haven't heard anything from the uni. Cheers for any help

AFAIK you get it automatically during the first term if your grades are good enough.
I'm not sure if my IB grades are good enough. 34 is about equivalent to AAB [what I need for a Geography entry scholarship] if you look at UCAS, but the information for 2010 scholarships where all departmental entry scholarships have been unified seems to believe that IB students should be getting 36 to qualify.
I'll e-mail the Geography admissions tutor tomorrow and ask. No big deal if I don't get it, but £1K would be nice . . .

I typed out my theory, but it looks like it's totally wrong.
I assume you're 2010 entry like me? If so:
"The University of Leicester Entrance Scholarship is a non-repayable scholarship of £1,000 available to new UK undergraduate students who achieve at least the following:
AAB at A-Level including AVCE (best three A-Levels, excluding General Studies), or 36 in the International Baccalaureate, or DDM in the BTEC National Diploma, or D2 in the OCR National Extended Diploma"

I can't wait until the end of the month!
Are any of the old mansions en suite, self-catered?

AFAIK all the mansions have communal bathrooms, so not as far as I'm aware. Talk to accomodation, though. They're more knowledgeable about this than I.

As far as I'm aware none of them are en-suite for students, but the John Foster ones are self catered. They're, despite being non en-suite, in my opinion, the best places in Oadby to get. You're lucky if you an of the houses, and ridiculously lucky if you get one of the nice rooms in them

They give free piano lessons, or did I misunderstand? If so do you know if they have that in Beaumont as well?
Hello, I'm in Bowder Court Block HH flr 0 room 6, anyone else nearby? Also, a quick question how much fridge/freezer is their in bowder court self-catered room? Thanks
There are two fridge/freezers in each kitchen in Bowder Court but they are just like normal fridge/freezers.
This isn't really relevant, but I've been told to move in on the Sunday and I can't becuase my Dad works nights, and would have to get up really early, drive 3 hours each way and then work all night through and be awake 24 hours I can't do that... What do I do?

Ring Accomm and see if they can be flexible. If not; go by train? And get your dad to bring more stuff down when he can?

Are you sure it's Sunday? Mine said Sunday when I accepted the accommodation, but then they sent me an email saying Saturday If you can't make it, try contacting the uni & see if you can arrange a diff time/day

Mine said Saturday 27th, and I emailed saying the 27th is a Sunday, and they've now changed it to Sunday How confusing! If yours is Saturday then maybe they will let me move in on the Saturday. Where abouts are you living?
