a bad day on november 3rd...would mean..?

a better chance in cambridge or UCL? Sorry! didnt get that bit!

Isn't the BMAT on November 3rd? I meant that a bad day wouldn't totally screw up an application to UCL or Cambridge, as interviews there are not based onthe BMAT.

basicaly these are the possible unis...

kings, ucl, imperial, brighton, oxbridge...

i have to take out one, out of this 5!

and just say i take out UCL, is...

oxford, imperial, kings and brighton a reli risky choice? Espicially with the competition for medicine getting even higher! i know my careers advisor would kill me!

Oxford v. Cambridge for medicine..

(hmm..where's helenia? i think all this info is correct..)

oxford call fewer to interview.
apparently cambridge make more nasty offers including all 4 subjects & AEA.
cambridge have a bigger intake.
Cambridge interviewyou over a short period of time - a day trip? Oxford colleges put you up, & you have two independent interviews at different colleges to ensure fairness & this is blind of your BMAT scare.
the 3rd year structure is different.

your A level subjects may dictate - Cambridge want more sciences/math whereas Oxford are happy with only 2 & any other subjects.

but, BMAT registration is before 30th September.. so you may need to get your skates on.

if you dislike the idea of competition then maybe another career would be an idea.. there may be a 'shortage' of medics, but some posts are infinitely more popular, so unless you want to wallow in mediocrity..? your career's advisor is there to 'advise'. everywhere is competitive for medicine..plenty of people with AAA each year don't get any offers..

cambridge sounds fractionally easier than oxford..

its a hard choice choosing out of a london uni (UCL) which is so close and may have a better student life...

or cambridge, which carrys the name, is stunning but is so far away!...

does cambridge look at AS UMS points...? as well as high BMAT...
do u need like 290/300 to be considered??
Yesterday, someone was sayin that it doesnt matter what u get!...

if that's your reason for applying.. then don't.

& yes, Cambridge are requesting UMS marks - plenty of threads on this.

i dont really know what living in cambridge would be like...ive kinda realised by now that everything depends on high BMAT and interview...

is 265 and 275 for bio and chem...still ok to apply? my careers advisor was a bit iffy!..

its 3/6 years, a long time, i reli wish i cud have a taste of the atmosphere there!

Your marks are really good! And if you want a taste of the atmosphere, why not go on a day trip?

Hi!!
I applied to both UCL and Oxford this year. I got an interview at Oxford but was rejected after interview. I'm going to UCL. The interviews were quite different, I felt very intimidated at Oxford. Although i think there are more applications per place at UCL (8 per place this year i think), UCL may give out more offers, and the calibre of students applying is likely to be a bit lower than oxbridge, so the competition may be less fierce. Even if you apply to both of these unis, you still leave 2 spaces for slightly less competitive medical schools. Apply to the unis you like the most, not the ones that are easiest to get into. Otherwise you may be left thinking "Maybe i could have got into Oxford...i wish that i had tried". Good luck xx

I'm in exactly the same position as you [well my GCSE's were a bit worse, 6 A's and 4B's, and 4 A's at AS]

I'm applying for QM, Kings and Imperial.

I'm still not sure whether to apply for UCL or Oxford, due to the BMAT :frown:

What also worries me it that I don't have any insurance choice? would that be a problem, as all the unis im applying to need AAB

p.s. what made you chooce Brighton?

Oxford's Med School is not any better than UCL's or Cambridge's for most people going to any of these three would be great.

They have recently agreed to standardise their intake between them such that standards for getting in are the same to any of them and that the student will get the same standard of education, there also want to produce a standard entrance exam between the three of them.

Therefore I would argue go for the one you like the most. However I always thought that UCL's medical school was better than both Oxford's and Cambridge's - but this is based on snippets of reading here and there and talking to various students etc, its not a fact!
