I need some ideas of what to put for my assignment. The brief says, “describe the aims and objectives of two retail businesses operating in different sub-sectors” and “explain how and why two retail businesses operate in different sub-sectors use aims and objectives”. Oh, the companies I need to write about are Dorothy Perkins and Argos. 😊

Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

So

1. You need a description of the company- what it is, how big, how many employees, how many stores, how it operates, what it sells, what part of the market and why.

2. You need to know its aims. You can use a mission statement for that.

Argos

Our vision

Our vision is to be the most trusted retailer, where people love to work and shop. We’ll do this by putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and investing in our stores, our colleagues and our channels to offer the best possible shopping experience.

Retail companies always want to increase market share or profitability.

So then you need to look at objectives in how it tries to achieve this. Objectives are specific steps to help it achieve the aim/ mission.

You can usually find these on the website or in the annual report or in the news.

A business objective is a detailed picture of a step you plan to take in order to achieve a stated aim. These need to be SMART in order for the business to know what progress it has made towards achieving the objective:
Specific - clear and easy to understand.
Measurable - i.e. able to be quantified.
Achievable - possible to be attained.

Realistic - not 'pie in the sky'.
Time bound - associated with a specific time period.

Argos since 2016 has been part of sainsburys

You can look at their annual report and pick out objectives

theres also some stuff about investing in staff and the environment/ recycling policy.

Did you pick Dorothy Perkins?

Cant find annual report as its a private company, means Green keeps it to himself. You will have to pick out objectives from the website and above. Have looked quite hard.

Not brilliant by me, but theres the start of information you need to do your assignment.
