*cough* Newcastle! *cough*
Newcastle is 12 mins away by train

TBH, i don't think anywhere would be boring with 10,000 students, do you?!

well durham does have nightlife, it depends what ur used to, i'm sure it is nowhere near what newcastle can offer, but personally i prefer a smaller selection where there are lots of people you know around you. I'm sooooo lookin forward to klute! (this is one of the main reasons for choosing durham over warwick, york, imperial and leeds!) and as for which college, hill colleges arnt as old, and as your studying economics that would probably be nearer.

Hi, I'm also applyin to Durham but to do Law insted. The info is that Queens Campus Stockton is rely modern and has good intercompetition between its two colleges. The otha colleges are all in durham, which i here has rely gd transport to newcastle etc. My m8s bro does history at Durham and my m8 told me that although Queens Campus Stockton is gd the students who go there are all "loners" in the sense that they only socialise with each otha as they usually get taught at the the campus itself. I'm facing the same dilema aswell, but i mean queens has a watersports centre, tennis courts, everything!!! I think in the end its a case of facilities vs Socialising, but i mean enuff ppl go to Queens campus that u can make enuff friends there.

Thats because Queens Campus is about 26miles away, which is 45 minutes on the bus.

It is easier and quicker to get from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne to Durham City, than it is from Durham City to Queens Campus.

Newcastle Uni used to be "Kings College Durham" but split off for practical reasons. Now Durham once again has a satellite campus, which was supposed to be a joint venture with Teeside Uni, but they pulled out.

Call me pessimistic, but if Kings College split, when its only 15minutes away on the train, what's the chances for Queens Campus remaining part of Durham, when its further away and has no rail link, only a far slower bus?

The PUSH guide to universities, which I understand is widely read by students before applying to university, ignores Queens Campus completely, simply stating that to the students there it might as well be a seperate institution.

It's a wise choice.

And it's completely ludicrous to apply to study Law and apply also to QCS.
(who ever mentioned that).

Its too far away from the department....you'd be so tired from travelling your studying would suffer. Plus the law library is at Durham, and the library at Stockton is likely to focus on the subjects they teach...i.e not Law.

I agree. Queen's Campus wouldn't let anyone live there if they were reading a subject on the City Campus.

PS. I just passed my driving test!

Now shopping i can talk on!

Shopping was on my list as one of the major things. Infact, thats one of the reasons I didnt apply for Warwick as it really is in the middle of nowhere.

Durham has all the usual, next, topshop, dorothy perkins etc. plus, if u choose a baily college, u can roll out of bed and be amongst the shops. Again, Newcastle is nearby.

Wat im concerned about is i didnt see a nail bar in durham. Or a tanning place! Not that ill be able to afford it but they dominate SE london and im gunna miss the tacky 80's posters!

Alright, I'll admit I've seen a tanning place in the north east of England (there's one about 3 mins away from me). But a nail bar ? Never. Ever.

I'm not even sure I know what one is. The only nails I like at bars are rusty one's. and doubles at that!

really ?

maybe I have seen them then! But I've never heard of them descirbed as "nail bars".....can't seem to place any in Newcastle, but I'm sure there must be one. I know there are tanning salons that "do" nails. Does that count ?
