I decided to do some welding courses as a hobby. I'm currently working on level 1 for MIG, TIG and MMA. I'm finding it really enjoyable and can definitely imagine myself working in the welding industry later on.

What level would I have to train to be employable?

A lot of it is based on experience and then people carry on with their training. A lot of the welders I met when I was doing occupational health research in welders were self employed though a few worked for big companies. Maybe look into apprenticeships?

There isn’t an age limit

The only difference would be that you’re taking welding lessons part time and working on the job with a wage for the rest of it.
I’ve studied on my apprenticeships with people significantly older, never seen anyone ever questioning it. It’s a good way to retrain into a new career.
