Do I have prospects with this course?

I've applied to go to uni to study post production, as I have planned to become a professional video editor, but I don't want to do it if I won't have solid career prospects. I've received an unconditional offer to study television post production at Southampton solent, but do i accept? I've heard degrees in film and video are not useful, or is my course different due to its specialisation in one area? Please tell me your opinions, should I go for a safer subject for career prospects and am I fooling myself applying for this course. Seeing the courses people I know are applying for, like economics, astrophysics, engineering, biology, medicine, I just feel like I've made some sort of mistake. Thank you.

Solent offers placements on most courses. That plus the practical nature of the course should mean you graduate with the skills and experience to do the job. The only question is over whether there’s the jobs out there - speak to some employers/organisations that use post production to find out how they recruit people to do it (and whether they employ staff directly or use freelancers). If freelancing is common then speak to some freelancers in the field. Basically get a good feel now for the job market you’re getting into so that you can make the best use of your time and opportunities at university to get your self into the job after graduation.
