She did. Though I am not sure why. I thought English at Castle would be the most difficult combination. Given that English is the niche subject at Durham since they supposedly are better than Oxbridge and Castle being oh so very popular. Which must make you very smart Reblet.

Still no update on the law website about changes to the modules for second year DN... not to digress or anything

stop it de.novo. Oxford rules the roost regarding english. Sorry Reblet

Yeah I know. I checked the website out yesterday. Was taking a look at the available modules. They are not bad once you get over the initial shock of the lack of modules that are offered. But I expect them to change soon.

I know Oxbridge is better. Thus the supposedly. It's just if you look at the Times league tables Durham is No. 1. But league tables are sometimes ridiculous. But nonetheless Durham is very good for English.

kevster, a lot of league tables suggest that actually Durham is better. And I hear that the Oxford course is a tad antiquated.

and just because it's Oxbridge doesn't necessarily mean it's better. UCL has a better Archaeology department than Oxford.

I accept your point, but the times who places durham top spot, puts leeds in at 5th, give me a break.

Oxford is amazing and I'd admit it might have the edge on Durham for English purely due to the Oxbridge effect. Buuut Durham is hot on its heels and supposedly has the better course.
I didn't turn down my History and English offer last year, I desperately wanted to go but my school messed up one of my A-levels hence didn't make the grades.
This year I was amazingly lucky they even looked at me, let alone got an offer. With Castle I think its a case of the early bird thing, if you get accepted by the department early enough you stand a chance.

I respect your modesty.

It's the truth though. Honestly I think it's just luck or fate where you end up, because so many better-qualified people will lose out to a place which for some reason I got.
Reply 129
I suppose so, if the Times are right, then that makes you better than Oxbridge yet they rejected you. Would you have preferred the history bit?
Reply 130
They rejected me twice actually  Proud of that.

But lots of people get rejected from Oxford, similarly lots of people get rejected from Durham. It has nothing to do with how goo the course is. I do prefer the Durham course as the module are wicked awesome.

I don't know about History anymore. I used to love it but I had so many problems with my school over it that I'll be glad to be rid of the bloody thing! haha.

I agree with the whole idea of when you get accepted early the better chances of being accepted into the more popular colleges. Is it me or is there a serious lack of people from Hatfield College? And don't mean to slag Hatfield off, but I was bored and was taking a look at the college videos and was seriously put off by theirs.
Reply 132
Their video is AWFUL, even Hatfield folk accept that.
Supposedly it's the 2nd most popular college for applicants though, so there must be some offers out there... de.novo I forget what college you got into.

twice? thats some good going reblet:cool:

Ill pretend you did not say that about History and I did not read it. It's late(ish) so i'll give you the benefit of the doubt.Did you go for Mansfield college the 1st time aswel? I dont mean to rub salt in your wounds but I think its rock bottom in the norrington table, not that you really care.:s-smilie:

Collingwood. Was the one I applied to and the one I got into, so I'm pretty chuffed about that. The only thing I don't look forward to is the relatively long walks back and forth from the college to the law department. But all the Hill college folk have to deal with that, so it's not really a problem.

It's about as far as Butler to the History department, and I haven't died yet :p:. Takes about 25 minutes walking at a decent pace, longer if you get stuck behind people who walk slowly!

Figured that it would take that long. Not a problem. And that's one thing I cannot stand. People who stroll and block the pathway for everyone else who is in a hurry. Stand aside people, how hard is that. It's one thing if you're old or injured. But it's another thing when someone is trying to get to class and you seem to think that you own that stretch of road.

No, I applied to Corpus Christi the first time. I applied to the two smallest colleges because they were both very cute. I applied to Mansfield because I liked the sound of the tutors there (female with similar interests to mine) but it didn't matter at the end of the day because my school reference forgot to mention they messed my A-level up thus no interview.
I can't see why people get so cut-up about Oxford rejections really. At first it hurts, but you usually end up where you were supposed to.

Well I did English Literature, Mathematics, Biology in A2 and Chemistry in AS. And my grades are AAAc. Yes, Chemistry is evil and needs to die a horrible death.
