Yes.

Saturday nights are a bit cruddy on campus. The union event is absolutely awful. Clubs in town aren't as student friendly at the weekends either. You either need to find a party, have a night in or go and chill out and play pool in the pub/bar thing on top of the union.

Yes is the straightforward answer, but it would be exactly the same at every other uni.

Depends, if your at TopB or Score then I would say no! Everyone else is so utterly wasted you need to have some level of intoxication. Go to a proper club, you wont have any problems at all.

Agreed. If you are 100% sober then Score can be a nightmare. Like everything though depends on the person and other factors.
Also as a sober person a uni you are more likely to get fed up and annoyed with your hallmates when they are wasted and therefore being quite annoying.

The nightlife in Cov isn't great compared to someplace like B'ham (only a short train ride away) or Liverpool or Manchester, but it's not half bad.

But then again, why am I (a Cov student) encouraging someone to go to Warwick?

Remember, Cov v Warwick is always fun when drunk. Lots of singing.

"Who the **** are Warwick Uni...who the **** are Warwick Uni..."

...while the Warwick students bask comfortably in the knowledge that they're not the ones who are going to be working in a call center in 10 years...

And what makes you think we will be?

Please don't turn this thread into a Cov v Warwick argument. This is after all the Warwick forum - and slightly biased I might add. Start a new thread if you feel it absolutely necessary but leave this one for questions guys.

I don't want an argument, I'm genuninely interested to know what he has against Coventry University students, and, indeed, the University itself.

I'm not putting Warwick down in any way, it's a superb institution.

Not that I mind where he tells me his 'reasons'.

i guess being close to birmingham aint that bad...
i live in downtown brussels so i definetly seeing myself missing being in a large european city...

I live in central London (I'm currently at Imperial College). I'm considering doing a PhD at Warwick, but I need to check I won't become bored because of the surroundings, that wouldn't help my work!

is london hard to get to?

I may as well answer that. By car it's presumably very easy, you just need someone who has one. By coach it's cheap and probably quite slow. By train it's quite expensive (and compared to France/Germany's trains, also slow! About 85 minutes, I think). I had to pay about £25 for a return ticket, but it would be much cheaper if you booked in advance (maybe as low as £14, but I haven't checked).

I have a few questions:

1: I like weird nightclubs/gigs. Specifically goth nightclubs, or metal clubs that are big enough to have a good variety or small enough to be weird anyway. And especially clubs that play EBM/industrial music. Goffbeat society seem to have similar focus, but their website isn't up to date. Do they still exist?

2: How long (very approx!) does it take to get from the campus to the centre of Birmingham? And to get back at night?

I'd save a lot of money on rent at Warwick, so I'd be willing to spend some of that on going to Birmingham quite often, but obviously that's only any use if other people are going too! How often do people go to Birmingham?

3: I can't remember the other questions. Ah well.

I guess that depends entirely on who you get to know. There are some people that go to Birmingham every or every other weekend, others who haven't been once.

Megabus is by far the quickest and most convenient way to get to London. The coach picks up from virtually on campus, which saves a 30 minute journey to Coventry that you'd need for both National Express and the train. It costs between £1 and £7 depending on how far in advance you book, and takes about 2:20 hours.

i dont' drink and i still mange to have a good time :p: the societies have very strict rules about how far they can endorse alcohol. because obviosuly it excludes religions as well as individuals if you put on an email for the next social '"lets all get smashed" so there very careful to expalin that 'you don't have to drink if you don't want to etc' most nights one person will not be drinking anyway cos they've been drinking too much or whatever so no i never have a problem wiht it
