Attachment 733162im really struggling with this question, I feel like I understand the concepts in chemistry but then I got a U in my mock paper.

My chem teacher suggested doing more past papers but im struggling, especially with the multiple choice questions, its really affecting my motivation

Sorry not sure why its not showing, its a picture of this question

14) Consider the following data

S(s) + H2(g) = H2S(g) delta H =a
H2(g) + 1/2O2(g) = H20(l) delta H =b
S(s) + O2(g) = SO2(g) delta H =c
H2S (g) + 1 1/2O2 (g) = H2O(l) + SO2 (g) delta H = d

What is the relationship between a, b, c and d

A) a=b+c-d
B) a=d-b-c
C) a=b-c-d
D) a=d+c-b

when i checked the mark scheme it gave A as the correct answer

OK this is what I got.

You start with a Hess´s diagram.

S + H2 -----> H2S (a)

An arrow point downwards from S should end with the equation S + O2 -----> SO2 (c)
An arrow pointing downwards from H2 should end with the equation H2 + 1/2O2 = H20 (b)
An arrow point downwards from H2S should end with the equation H2S + 1 1/2O2 = H20 + SO2 (d)

Connect the arrows in the Hess´s diagram to get... a + d = b + c
Rearrange to get a = b + c - d
So the answer is A.
