Radium 226 was discovered by mari curie in 1898. The notebook she used was contaminated with radium 226 and are still hazardous. Explain why the notebooks are still hazardous

Radium-226 has a half life of 1600 years, meaning half of all the radioactive radium isotopes to decay and become stable.

It's only been 119 years out so, which is not even a quarter of the radioactive half-life of R-226, meaning that the notebook is just as radioactive as it was back in 1898

As for why it's hazardous, the ionising alpha radiation emitted from the R-226 can damage DNA and cause mutations
