University of Buckingham

Hi my name is Thomas Whillier and I am a law student at the University of Buckingham currently obtaining my Honours LLB. My story begins in February of 2007 when I was on the verge of graduating from York University, Toronto, Canada. As graduation loomed I began looking for employment, however, there didn't seem to be many good job prospects. In turn, I began to think of ways strengthen my credentials. Law school was one the opportunities for me to strengthen my credentials and gain a competitive edge. Unfortunately, I had not written the LSAT and did not wish to write it because I did not have enough time to study for the demanding test and maintain doing well with my already demanding coursework. Then I heard about the University of Buckingham through a friend who said that she had went there. She told me that 1. You did not have to write the LSAT in order to go there and 2. It was only a two-year long, 24 month program unlike three year programs that are the norm in Canada. I then began to look further into the school and discovered that this was a great opportunity to earn an internationally recognized LLB whilst spending only two years in school. Thus, I enrolled at the university and had the benefit of being able to start in July 2007. Buckingham was in complete contrast to York. Buckingham is a small school with a great atmosphere. My tutorials are usually with only 3 to 4 other students which really give us an opportunity to discuss the law and address any questions we may have. After obtaining my degree from Buckingham I plan on either going back to Canada and practicing law or to go on to a master of law program.

Do you have a question or anything? Or are you just telling us about your educational experience?:s-smilie:
Thank you for your post. Please give an update to your experience. I recently got accepted at University of Buckingham, and a bit terrified since it is so far from home (The Bahamas). I know very little about the university and try so desperately to get information relative to the living accommodations. Can you kindly give some insight as to how the rooms are, your essentials for your first year, shopping for your essentials there and student life on the campus.

heyy, i am looking to apply to the university this year for 2012 entry, have not gone to an open day yet, and no one has alot to say about it!

i know this is years from your post on here, (the magic of the internet :P) but can you tell me what life there is like? and can one possibly cope with doing a degree in two years, also im 18, are most of the students around my age or is the university just for mature students?

many thanks.

Haha I drove there with my dad on thursday, it wasn't too much of a bad drive :P!
Their teaching style is really attractive  1 student to a max of 7/8 students. It's much more intimate than other uni's where every student is just a 'student'. You're recognised, everyone says hello to one another etc... The only thing that worries me is that when I went it was EXTREMELY quiet, I must have only seen a maximum of 50 students! Either they were all sleeping, or all in a class. Accommodation was pretty standard, I only saw a non-en-suite room but she managed to fit an exercise machine, exercise ball, bed, computer and desk. Cupboards were built in and a built in sink was also provided

Hope I helped :P!!
