no you are thinking of the derivative of tan.

to integrate it think of writing it as sinx/cosx and how to integrate a fraction.
Write tan^2x in terms of secx and integrate from there.

Try using the identity for 1 + tan^2(x). sec^2(x) is much easier to integrate than tan^2(x) is.
