The RMS voltage of a sinusoidal electricity supply is 110V. The maximum potential difference during one cycle is...
A) 220V
B) 156V
C) 110V
D) 55V

Thank you in advance, The answer is B but I don't know why.

Root Mean Square (RMS) is an imaginary d.c. voltage taken to represent the same power the actual a.c. waveform transfers to the circuit.

It's a convenience to make calculations easier when dealing with periodic waveform voltages.

The relationship for the peak sinusoidal (mains supply) voltage and the RMS equivalent d.c. voltage is:

V_{RMS} = \frac{V_{peak}}{\sqrt{2}}

So it is 110* sqrt 2. Thank you so much for the help, I didn't understand it! Appreciate it a lot honestly!
