Aberdeen or Stirling

Hey, im new here so dont know if this belongs in this forum.

Having trouble making the decision between Stirling or Aberdeen for Law in 2008. Have offers from both. I know Aberdeen is the better Law school but I think it depends on the individual really:s-smilie:

Anyway, whats the thoughts on the universities overall?

Thanks :p:

have you been to either? you should if you can, will probs help greatly

i'd go for aberdeen myself, as the uni looks good, the town's a nice place, and as a plus it's aesthetically pleasing - and the law school's meant to be terrific

haven't been to stirling though, and dont know much about it tbh

Aberdeen=horrible. although its a good university, I just strongly dislike the actual city having lived here the past 5 years.

Edited to add: In case anyone takes offence, I'm just speaking from my experience. Perhaps its completely different when your actually studying there.
Yes, I would shoot for Aberdeen - they are meant to have something silly like the 2nd best law school in the country.

Yes, the country!! :p:

If it's that bad, why did you apply here? :s-smilie:

Really just because it would be so convenient, could live at home, not end up with a massive debt and keep my horse. But I soon realised that there was no point staying in a place I don't like for those reasons, as I think I would always regret it.

I was too hasty in saying aberdeen was horrible, should have been more sensitive to others living there too who do like it, but theres just something about it as a city, its gloomy! That's not to say its not completely different when your at uni there though

Stirling has a beautiful campus - and is a on campus university with the halls and everything there as well. I don't really like Aberdeen, didn't even consider it when I was applying.

Are you studying at stirling? If so, whats it like as a uni? Nightlife, teaching standards etc?

Thanks

I grew up there! I still prefer Union Street over Princes Street in Edinburgh because it just seems so much more organised to me, but I just amn't overly fond of the city as a whole. I didn't fancy staying at home for uni because of family circumstances anyway, but I don't think I could go back to live there now.

I don't study there but I know people who have done very recently. I could ask them if you like?

Aah ok, fair enough. I mistook you for someone taking a swipe at the city without having ever visited, my apologies.

i'm thinking of going there if edinburgh doesn't work out - the only problem is that it's just way too far from me:frown:

How can it be too far? I know quite a few folk from London that are here and they manage fine, plus uni is all about making a fresh start

tis very true indeed, and suppose that if i'm willing to go all the way to edinburgh, a couple more hours in the journey shouldnt be to stressful!

Exactly. There are good transport links up here so it's not as if you'd be stranded or anything. I wouldn't let distance put you off going to a uni, much better to visit and see if you like it first, if so then you can work out the practicalities.
