Unable to access account from 25 years ago.

My step-daughter is currently applying for student finance for 2018 entry. However, I am unable to access my account to provide online information as my account is still active from 1992.
I have called the support line and I was unable to answer the questions to reactive my account and identify my Customer Reference Number, as the account is linked to previous addresses, and telephone numbers.
I now have to write to the Student Loans Company with my updated details, and submit a paper form rather than doing this online.
My query is this, why is my step-daughter's application dependent upon my personal customer reference number from 25 years ago?
Surely I can't be the only parent in this situation, and why was this not foreseen by those managing the Student Loans Company/Sutdent Finance?

I would forget about providing your income information online and just fill in the paper form instead https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-f...i/2018-to-2019

I agree that it’s stupid for an old loan to muddle the system so much.
