Brilliant night life, lively city, loads to do.

You've really nothing to worry about .
Its probably about the best place in the country for night life, a great student city.

well, if you are into tacky student nights and/or gay nights playing disco house you are well sorted.

depends on your taste really. on the plus side, london is a hop, skip and less than an hour on the train away - now that is good for nightlife.

I'm not into any of that sort of thing, if you know where to look, there is plenty of pretty much anything you could be after.

Not really dude, it's a town really rather than a city. Fairly limited. Nightlife is not awful, don't get me wrong, but it's far from the best in the country or whatever

Tbh I like other things about brighton a lot more, but hey

good points....

wonderful brilliant white regency buildings which sparkle in the sun, and multicoloured terraces which make just walking into town on a nice day an uplifting experience
loads of good places to eat
its just the right size to cycle anywhere in not very long at all
the sea (and the downs)
concorde 2

bad points.....

overrated nightlife just about everywhere else
expensive for just about everything
the beach (unless you like pebbles)

definitely would recommend it though, can't think of many better places to go to uni tbh
I applied to Brighton Uni for this sept (2008) but my campus is in eastbourne..

Would that make a difference? like i mean i went for an open day, but im just, wondering.. if being in brighton is different than being in eastbourne or is it pretty much the same?

Brighton is awesome. Small enough to feel like you really can see and explore everything, but big enough to get lost in. There are some really cool places to hang out, and the nightlife keeps me entertained pretty much 7 days a week! There are all sorts of clubs from jazz clubs to urban lounges to gay disco to drum and bass nights. You just need to know where to look and to know not to settle for the likes of oceana which I made the mistake of in the first term of uni!
Eastbourne is fairly far away, I have never come across anyone from that campus.

Dead old ladies all over the place.

I'm still not really understanding the whole "Brighton's nightlife ain't that great" argument. It is a city of 250,000 people. You have to compare it against cities of similar population size (like Southampton and Portsmouth) which it's far better than. It has tons of great pubs and clubs, you can go clubbing and find a good night in terms of price, atmosphere and music on any night of the week. Most bands will go through Brighton on tours. Okay, not quite so great at weekends because of all the stag and hen do's coming down and the out of towners but apart from that it's great.

But yeh I've done these arguments to death anyway before.

Well mate, if it floats your boat then that's great. You're quite right, compare it to a similar size British city and it'll come out pretty well. As I said above, my pet peeve is when the old "best nightlife in the country, bar none" argument comes out. Which is really only peddled by students who have gone out in two places - Brighton, and some two-bit town in Berkshire where they've lived for 18 years.

There's loads of good things about Brighton's nightlife, but plenty of bad ones too. You pinpointed a good one right there - the place is absolutely flooded with twats at the weekend - not a good start. And for me, it's just too small - you see the same faces too often to be really comfortable.

But yeah we've done the arguments to death. Pretty much all of them are very subjective too eh.

Eastbourne pretty much comprises of old people and students. Brighton is all young people from local primary school kids to students etc.. typical of Brighton =)
The place is pretty good, not too bad...the beach is 100% pebble, (not the best in the world, but its a beach still!!), and sand appears at low tide so I'v heard from the locals and previous students. The uni organises stuff with the clubs so clubs are always cheap entry and drink deals inside. Pretty awesome to be honest. =) You'll enjoy it.
