Is 35 hours roughly enough to get all the reading and writing for a 2000 word essay?

I think it depends greatly on how easy words come to you.

I have written articles for people in my industry for similar lenght and it often took me less than 10h end to end (including edit and review) but words just flow when you know what you're talking about.

What about building the outline of what you want to say and the structure. Then you'll probably better off trying to slide it in terms of mini-milestones rather than time allocation.

    Good luck
