Hello,
My daughter is an EU citazin but we are residents in South Africa at the moment, in a few years she would like to go to the UK and study medicine (she is enrolled in a Cambridge school in South Africa at the moment )would she be able to obtain a student loan? And if yes ,would they cover the full annual fee or only a part?
Thank you

Hi Arianna,

To be eligible for funding from Student Finance , EU students must meet the following criteria.

  • Have lived in the EEA or Switzerland for the three years prior to the first day of the first academic year of the course.
  • Be living in the United Kingdom on the first day of the first term of their course .
  • Be attending a course which attracts funding.

Thanks

Louise

Hi Louise,
Thank you for your replay, so if I'm understanding correctly, unless my daughter has physically lived in EU (even though we have a EU passport )we won't be able to ask loans.
But what about school fee though. ..would I be charged with the EU citazin prices or overseas prices?

Hi Arianna,

Yes, EU nationals would still have to be resident within the EU/EEA 3 years prior to the start of their course and be resident within the UK on the first day of the first academic year of the course to be eligible for funding from Student Finance.
It would be the University's discretion to whether they would charge international or EU Tuition fees.

Thanks

Louise
