I'm currently studying a law degree, is this a good degree for a civil service application but also how difficult is the Fast Stream?

Cheers

Very. And other graduate-grade civil service jobs outside of the Fast Stream are also tough to get onto. But that shouldn't put you off applying!

Your degree subject has no baring on success in securing a place on the fast stream. The civil service look solely at your performance in the various stages- last time I applied this included a competency questionaire, situational judgement test, etray, interview and finally assessment centre. It is very competitive and many current fast streamers only got in at their second or third attempt of applying. Do still give it a go though as obviously you don't know if you don't try but do make plenty of additional applications as well.

Very competitive. Unless it is a specific degree like the economics ones, there are no required degrees. I am about to graduate with a Politics degree and I have a place for the generalist scheme.

If you can, try for the SDIP. It's their summer internship. It's amazing experience and if you do well enough, you can get the Fast Pass, which allows you to skip part of the FS assessment.
