post graduate loan

I have a degree in Engineering which is an M.Eng awarded to me as an undergraduate.
I have a place to study for a taught Masters to obtain an M.Sc as I need to further specialise to enable me to pursue a Phd.
As my undergraduate degree was an integrated degree giving me the professional qualification for an engineer, is this considered as an equivalent level qualification and therefore am I ineligible for a post graduate student loan?
I am unclear as to the status of the M.Eng for the masters loan.

Unfortunately yes. SFE consider undergraduate masters qualifications to be equivalent to a postgraduate masters and so makes you ineligible for the postgraduate loan.

If you speak to the university concerned they might have research council funding or bursaries available for people in your situation.

Thank you for clarifying this for me

Hi Bella Engineer,

Students who already hold a qualification which is equivalent to or higher in level than a Masters, unfortunately this includes an integrated Masters (ELQ), will not be eligible for the Postgraduate Loan.

You should speak to your university regarding any scholarships or bursaries that may be available.
